Scaling & Root Planing
Scaling and root planing is a two-step process designed to minimize the accumulation of bad oral bacteria within the mouth. First, Dr. Nobles will remove all plaque and tartar build-up on the surface of the teeth, as far down as the pockets of the gums. She will then smooth out the roots of the teeth, getting rid of any collected bacteria. This will allow the gum tissue to healthily reattach to the tooth structure and protect the vulnerable roots.
Antibiotic Therapy
In conjunction with scaling and root planing, Dr. Nobles may also recommend antibiotics, depending on the extent of your periodontitis. The antibiotics may come in the form of a pill, mouthwash, or oral gel. With routine use according to our team’s instructions, this will minimize the number of harmful oral bacteria within the mouth, giving your body a little extra help in fighting off the infection.
